Treat Your Family to A Colorado Springs Staycation Adventures at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park in Colorado

This year has definitely been out of the ordinary. Colorado Springs Staycation Adventures

Unfortunately, America is still recovering from the global pandemic caused by COVID-19. With that being said, Americans are being told to be cautious when traveling, and international travel is definitely out of the question.

All the better reason to bring your family on a few staycation adventures — especially if you’re in the Colorado Springs, Colorado area.

One hour south of the Colorado Springs area lives one of Colorado’s must-see attractions, North America’s highest suspension bridge, along with fun rides for the whole family — the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park.

Here are a few activities that will make your Colorado Springs staycation adventures better than ever.

Visit and Learn All About the 91-Year Old Highest Suspension Bridge in America

When you and your family visit the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, you will be able to walk across the entire bridge. Although this may sound like a little adventure, the bridge speaks for itself.

This 91-year-old suspension bridge was built in 1929 and held the title as “the highest  suspension bridge in the world” for a number of years. It only took seven months to build and towers over the Arkansas River with 1,292 wooden planks that make up its length.

When you visit the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park you and your family will also be able to visit the Plaza Theater that plays an educational video at the top of each hour. Here your family will be able to learn the ins and outs of the Royal Gorge Bridge, but the real activity on your family’s Colorado Springs staycation adventures list is being able to cross a bridge that was built in 1929.

Royal Gorge Bridge and Park Adventurous Colorado Attractions

We offer something for everyone, from the smallest adventure to ones that will make your stomach drop. Along with walking across the Royal Gorge Bridge, your family should make sure to add the other Royal Gorge Bridge and Park attractions to your Colorado Springs staycation adventures list.

Our main adventurous attractions include:

  • Via Ferrata
  • Cloudscraper Zipline
  • Royal Rush Skyscraper

Via Ferrata

See the Royal Gorge in a new way.

The Via Ferrata is the newest adventure attraction at the park and is built for all members of your family to enjoy. When you book a reservation for the Via Ferrata, you and your family will have the opportunity to scale the sides of the gorge and experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

You and your family will be guided, with a skilled instructor, to hike, and climb up the sides of the Royal Gorge and take in views that many may only dream of.

Before you plan to add the Via Ferrata to your family’s Colorado Springs staycation adventures, please know that unfortunately, children under 10 are unable to participate in the Via Ferrata.

For more information about the Via Ferrata please visit the Via Ferrata page on our website.

Cloudscraper Zipline

Listed as the Travel Channel’s #1 Colorado Bucket List experience, this excursion is a must for all Colorado Springs staycation adventures.

Strap in 1,200 feet above the Arkansas River and soar parallel to the Royal Gorge Bridge. This Colorado zipline allows two people to be strapped into their own harness, and soar next to one another over the Arkansas River. If you and your family are feeling very adventurous, try zipping across without holding on!

This is another Colorado Springs staycation adventure where children under the age of 10, unfortunately, are unable to participate. Also, riders must be between 100-245 pounds, and for safety, your Cloudscraper zipline ride at the Royal Gorge is subject to weather delays.

For more information about booking your family’s Cloudscraper Zipline adventure, visit the Cloudscraper Zipline page on our website.

Royal Rush Skycoaster

Looking for an ultimate Colorado Springs staycation adventure? Then the Royal Gorge Royal Rush Skycoaster is the attraction for you and your family.

The Royal Rush Skycoaster is an intense roller coaster and extreme swing attraction mixed into one. When you book your reservation for the Royal Rush Skycoaster 1-3 people are able to ride at one time. Once you and your fellow riders are strapped in, you are pulled to the top of the Skycoaster tower. Then, once you’re at the top — geronimo!

This ride also has a few restrictions;  all riders must be between 42” – 82” tall. There are no weight requirements or age restrictions for the Royal Rush Skycoaster; however, all riders must comfortably fit into the required harness.
