How to Spend a Winter Day at Royal Gorge Bridge and Park

Are you looking for a winter adventure in Colorado that’s not skiing? Visit us at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park for a day full of fun and fresh mountain air instead! Colorado is known for its ski mountains throughout the state, but there are so many more ways to still have fun in the mountains – without the lift chair. At Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, you’ll find plenty of exhilarating thrill rides, climbing routes, hiking trails, and more. You might have to wear a few extra layers for warmth, but wintertime in the Royal Gorge region is a wonderful time to visit!

The most prominent attraction is America’s highest suspension bridge, the Royal Gorge Bridge hanging 956 feet over the Arkansas River. You’ll want to have your puffy coat and a beanie to keep warm as you walk across in the wind that rushes from up from the gorge below. Then, add some adrenaline to your day on our thrilling rides. The most scream-inducing ride is our Royal Rush Skycoaster where you and up to two more friends or family members can fly together over the Royal Gorge on a bungee swing. Silently glide across the gorge on our Aerial Gondola where you’ll have 360-degree views all around you, and take the Cloudscraper Zipline for a touch of adrenaline and a smooth, beautiful ride. While all these rides take place outdoors, your warm layers and winter gear will keep you prepared for all the fun!

Winter days in the Royal Gorge Region can be in the 50’s or 60’s, but it’s a good idea to dress in layers to prepare you for the wind. Some tips on what to wear in the winter at Royal Gorge Bridge and Park include a warm base layer such as a fleece liner or cotton long-sleeve shirt, layered with a down or synthetic down puffy jacket. A scarf and beanie will keep your neck and head warm but be sure these items are tight-fitting so the wind doesn’t blow them off! Warm pants such as wind resistant hiking pants over leggings will shield your skin from the cold.

At any time during your day, head inside Café 1230 for a warm cup of coffee and tea by the fireplace. And for a warm meal, order from our menu including burgers, salads, pizza, and more! We are open 365 days a year. Visit our website for more information, daily updates, and admissions.
