As the days become shorter this time of year in Colorado, the air turns crisp and the Aspen leaves turn to beautiful yellows, oranges, and sometimes reds. While many love this time of year in the mountains for beautiful views and reprieve from hot summer days, the autumn season comes and goes quickly! There is nothing cozier than a fresh cup of coffee on a foggy morning or smelling the fresh fall leaves on the ground. So, before winter creeps up on us, make sure you enjoy all the beautiful sights of fall! Here are six must-do things for fall to get the most out of this beautiful season in Colorado.

1. Dine in Style – Winemakers Dinner
The Winemakers Dinner is a fabulous evening at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park that returns every year in fall. Executive chef, John Kuespert pairs up with award-winning winemaker Jeff Stultz of the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey, a local winery in Cañon City, for a night filled with delicious eats and incredible Colorado wines. This dinner event takes place September 23rd from 4:30pm to 9:30pm at the Park’s Café 1230 where guests are treated with panoramic views of the Royal Gorge.
2. Trick-or-Treat on America’s Highest Suspension Bridge – Boo at the Bridge
Mummies and daddies take their little ghosts and goblins across America’s Highest Suspension Bridge for the ultimate trick-or-treating experience, Boo at the Bridge! A costume contest will reveal the most creative family at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park October 22nd. Live music, a dance performance, a coloring contest, and a spooky but educational critter experience by Nature’s Educators will also be held for entertainment during Boo at the Bridge! 3. See the Aspens Change Colors
One of the ultimate Colorado things to do in fall is take a road trip to see the Aspen leaves change colors! Hillsides on mountains turn from vibrant green to golden hues of fall as the air turns crisp, prompting the fall foliage. You can find colorful aspens in most places throughout Colorado, from the Front Range to the Western Slope. The best times to see the peak leaf colors depend on the area in Colorado you visit. Northern Colorado typically shows fall colors first, as the color change occurs west and south through mid to late October. Areas close to the Royal Gorge Region, including mountain towns of Cripple Creek and Victor, reveal some of the best fall colors in the state. 4. Pick a Pumpkin
Find the best pumpkin in the patch! Cañon City, Penrose, and Colorado Springs offer some of the best pumpkin-picking in the state. Try to find your way through the corn maze at Diana’s Pumpkin Patch and then pick your own pumpkin from their large variety of pumpkins and gourds. Take a hayride to the pumpkin patch at Happy Apple Farms in Penrose, Colorado. Don’t forget to try their fresh pressed apple cider and pick your own fresh apples to bring home. This fall activity is one of the best for families in Southern Colorado!
5. Gather Locally Grown Apples & Other Fresh Produce
One of the most popular fall activities in Colorado, especially in the Royal Gorge Region, is to visit our local orchards and pumpkin patches! The kids will love the hayrides and corn mazes, along with picking their own pumpkin for Halloween. Grab a bag of freshly picked apples while they last through the end of fall. Local markets at the orchards and pumpkin patches sell handmade fruit jellies and preserves and honey. Visit Venetucci Farm and the Miners’ Pumpkin Patch in Colorado Springs!
6. Go on a Ghost Hunt
Ready to get spooky? The Abbey Monastery in Cañon City hosts an overnight ghost hunt. Colorado is full of fantastic fall events and activities! The autumn season is also a wonderful time to conquer the Royal Gorge on our Via Ferrata course. This is your chance to drive your own car across the Royal Gorge Bridge 956 feet over the Arkansas River.
